We found the main condition for the transformation of stem cells into beta cells

way to significantly increase the yield of beta cells from stem, ensuring appropriate
culture conditions. As it turned out, the decisive role played by the high content
oxygen, which is characteristic of the natural microenvironment of the islands. Scientists
created a new device for culturing cells, which is called
"Oxygen Sandwich". This unit cells supplied with oxygen from two

This device was grown mouse stem cells in the pancreas. Was
shown that compared with standard conditions of cultivation, is
significant increase in differentiation of tissue stem cells
beta cells. Furthermore, compared with control up to 30 times increase in the level
insulin secretion. These results suggest that increasing concentrations of
Oxygen is a signal to the mass maturation of stem cells in
insulin-producing.



Apparently, the cultivation of such a device, other types of stem cells also
will significantly increase their differentiation into beta cells.



The results of this work allows to hope in the near term to develop
method of obtaining the beta cells in sufficient quantities for transplantation.
