match created by scientists microcapsules.



Microcapsules were named XCaps; they were used in experiments on the treatment
cardiovascular disease in rabbits. The researchers were able to trace the
proliferation, survival and functioning of the encapsulated
donor stem cells.



Capsules are composed of several layers: alginate - a substance does not cause nearly
immune response (inner and outer layers), barium - X-ray
agent to track the capsule, poly-L-lysine - a substance that conferred
capsule strength.



The researchers modeled on female rabbits severe disease of the peripheral
arteries, restricting blood flow to one of the limbs. A day after this
animals received injections of stem cells XCaps male rabbits, or
empty XCaps, or stem cells without capsules, or injections of saline solution. XCaps
were clearly visible under fluoroscopy as immediately after injection, and two
weeks. Minimal immune reaction to them by the absence of
formation of a fibrous membrane.



Proceedings of the study were presented in the report at the annual meeting
American College of Cardiology (American College of Cardiology), held
in New Orleans in late March.
