The success of surgical treatment of chronic back pain was 70%, and psychotherapy - 76%

, who led the experiment.

All patients who participated in the experiment, morethan a year suffer from permanent
pain in the back associated with disc degeneration. Hoping to confirm
operational effectiveness of treatment, the researchers compared the data with
results of behavioral therapy, which consists of establishing a certain type of
thinking and behavior of patients regarding pain, including special exercises.
Result hit in the first place the researchers themselves: the success of
surgical technique was 70%, and cognitive intervention - 76%.

Although statistically the difference in the effectiveness of two methods and not significant,
this study proves the effectiveness (both physical and
economic - in the U.S. operation costs $ 46,000) of cognitive
intervention.
