United States: the level of proteins involved in the development of autoimmune diseases increases after birth

I . One week after birth the hormone levels drop, resulting in levels of proteins involved in the development of inflammation, is increased, and symptoms of autoimmune disease returned.
Multiple sclerosis develops because the immune cells attack the cells of the nervous system and destroys myelin. The destasction of myelin leads to numbness, stiffness and weakness of muscles. Arthritis immune system cells attack the joints, causing pain, stiffness and inflammation. At present, medicine is powerless to cure both diseases.
In a study conducted at Georgetown University in Washington, the scientists measured blood levels of different immune system proteins in the blood of 18 healthy women who are at the stage of the last trimester of pregnancy, and a week after birth.
It was shown that the level of interleukin-12 during the last trimester of pregnancy was 3 times lower than after delivery. In addition, the level of necrotic factor - alpha during pregnancy was 40% lower. Both proteins help the immune system to fight infection, but they are also involved in tissue destasction in autoimmune disorders.
At the same time, levels of cortisol, norerinefrina increased during the last trimester of pregnancy. Previously it was shown that these hormones may repress interliykin-12 and necrotizing factor - alpha.
Scientists believe that this discovery will help to understand the mechanism of autoimmune diseases and to develop new dasgs for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and rheumatoid arthritis.
